Hollywood film makers have been crafting tales about UFOs, Aliens and Government conspiracies for at least fifty years … but ideas about Visitors from other planets coming to Earth have occupied the pages of Science Fiction for centuries, and stretch all the way back to the beginnings of human storytelling.
Accounts of Ancient Aliens come to us from every corner of the globe, often described as gods in Myth and Legend. Researcher Erich von Däniken found clues in archaeology and offered an explanation to the World in 1968 with his controversial theory about “Ancient Astronauts” in Chariots of the Gods?
Longtime fans of SCI-FI are well acquainted with imaginative depictions of Alien Life in movies like “The Day the Earth Stood Still” (1951), “The War of the Worlds” (1953), and popular TV shows like “The Twilight Zone” (1959-1964) and “The Outer Limits” (1963).
The original “Star Trek” (1966-1969) offered a wide variety of Alien life forms, both humanoid and otherwise, to open our minds — and perhaps teach us a few things about humanity along the way.
A TV Movie, “The UFO Incident” (1975) told a different kind of story about ALIENS, not from Science Fiction, but eyewitness accounts of a real-life Encounter — based on the 1961 Alien Abduction of Barney and Betty Hill. (The film utilizes original hypnosis tapes from the files of Dr. Benjamin Simon, who examined the Hill case extensively — making it arguably one of the most accurate portrayals of a real-life alien abduction.)
“Close Encounters of the Third Kind” (1977) from director Steven Spielberg dramatically depicts the fear and wonder associated with these life-changing events. (The “secret meeting” at the end is based on one which reportedly took place between Aliens and President Eisenhower in 1954. Spielberg included such details to lend the film authenticity and credibility.)
Creative storytelling about human contact with Extraterrestrials can be found in theatrical films like STAR WARS (1977), ALIEN (1979), “The Last Starfighter”(1984), “Enemy Mine” (1985), “The Abyss” (1989), “Stargate” (1994), “Independence Day” (1996) and TV Series like “The Martian Chronicles” (1980), “V” (1983) “Babylon 5” (1993-1998), Dark Skies (1996-1997) and “The X-Files” (1993-2018).
But in recent years, at the same time, a new era of storytelling has arrived, based (like “The UFO Incident” and “Close Encounters”) on actual eyewitness accounts of Abductees — like “Communion” (1989), “Intruders” (1992), “Fire in the Sky” (1993), “Roswell” (1994), “Visitors of the Night” (1995), and “Project Blue Book” (2019).
Enter THE SURVIVAL TRILOGY, based in part on storytelling about Human Contact with ALIENS (from Native Mythology) and actual recorded Events (like America West Flight 564 in 1995).
A GLEAM OF LIGHT (Book 1, 2016) begins with a life-changing UFO Encounter for eight year-old Half-Hopi Una Waters on Flight 564 — then flashes forward 21 years, to 2016. She’s called upon to help solve a Mystery when the U.S. Army invades the Sacred Peaks of Hopiland. There Una makes a remarkable discovery.
THE DRAGON’S GLARE (Book 2, 2017) finds Una in 2019 on special assignment to Chinatown, New York City — to investigate unexplained acts of violence, including a security breach at the NYPD. All clues point to a mysterious cult-like gang, known as “San-Tou-Long”. But the greatest danger lies far above … in orbit over Earth.
BEYOND THE WORLD (Book 3, 2018) takes Una to Yosemite National Park in 2020 for a honeymoon adventure — disrupted by a military emergency call. Temporarily stranded with teenage members of Explorer’s Club, Una uncovers a UFO Mystery — pointing to an ALIEN Conspiracy. The threat to humanity is too real to ignore.
Based on the Ancient Astronaut Theory of Erich von Däniken (Chariots of the Gods?, 1968), and the work of UFO Abduction researchers like David M. Jacobs (Walking Among Us, 2015) and UFOlogy specialists like Richard Dolan (The Alien Agendas, 2020), THE SURVIVAL TRILOGY explores Human Contact with ALIENS through Native American, Asian American, and African American Mythology.
It points to a Future … and embraces a Truth about the Fate of Humanity — that goes far beyond the imaginings of Science Fiction.
